POSITION SUMMARY: This position*s accountabilities are split between the Telecommunications Network Room and field-work. Approximately 80% of the time will be spent monitoring internal systems and member communications. The technician needs to become well experienced in the day-to-day operation of the Enterprise Network. The technician is required to keep a constant check on the network to ensure that it is operating efficiently. Any troubles are to be resolved as quickly as possible by working with the necessary tools and personnel. The remaining 20% of the time will be spent responding to network troubles at remote locations throughout the state of Georgia.
1. Monitor and maintain operation of the telecommunications network via workstation, network management systems, and test equipment. Respond quickly and appropriately to outages by working with telecommunications service providers* technical personnel.
2. Monitor and maintain operation of internet services, local and wide-area networks (LAN/WAN)
3. Coordinate the installation, configuration, and acceptance testing of new circuits with telecommunications service providers to connect new circuits and reroute existing circuits.
4. Aid in the installation and configuration of network equipment; build and install cables necessary to provide connectivity within a multi-vendor system environment. Assist with router configuration/installation and master station maintenance.
5. Troubleshoot and restore network troubles at remote sites throughout our network. Develop enhanced maintenance procedures and design performance enhancements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associates Degree in Telecommunications or Electronics
Experience:
Six years telecommunications experience with expertise in X.25, frame relay, DDS, and T-1 technologies, as well as a high level of proficiency with DSU/CSUs, RTU data transmission, multiplexers, data switches, LAN/WAN, Internet, and network management systems.
Equivalent Experience:
Four years of the above experience will be considered as equivalency to the Associates Degree.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Georgia Driver*s License.
Specialized Skills (e.g., typing, computers, software, tools and equipment uses, etc.):
Expert or proficient working knowledge of digital test equipment, such as LAN sniffer, TTC T-BERD and FireBERD, data scope, and protocol analyzer. Computer literate - proficient in the use of remote access software, MS/Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
