  Job Description
Skills and Requirements

Prospective candidates should have knowledge and experience in the following areas:

1. Experience in Linux system administration involving numerous machines, preferably clusters used to perform computationally-demanding applications.
2. Experience with all aspects of system management, such as hardware/OS installation, backups, networking, batch schedulers, and performance monitoring, tuning, and identification of bottlenecks.
3. Knowledge of RAID, SANs, NFS technologies and related products for disk and memory management within a cluster environment.
4. Proven ability to work with hardware and software vendors in a complex technical environment.
5. Programming experience with scripting languages (shell scripts, perl, etc.)
6. Experience building robust systems and disaster recovery planning.

Experience in the following areas would be also be highly desired:

1. Experience designing and building large computationally-optimized Linux clusters from the ground up including architectural design, capacity planning, component selection, and installation.
2. Experience with deploying and maintaining high performance computing (HPC) clusters utilizing administration packages (e.g., Rocks, Scali, etc.).

In addition, we prefer candidates with one or more of the following qualifications:

1. Database administration experience with Oracle; experience using SQL
2. Software development skills with C++, Java, or Fortran, especially experience writing programs to process large data sets.
3. Experience with system administration involving other operating systems, especially HP Alpha OpenVMS.
4. Experience with website development and/or experience developing user interfaces.
