  Job Description
Principle Accountabilities and Deliverables
Oversees and coordinates the daily activities of the network/systems administration and telecommunications team, including trouble ticket management, escalations from Help Desk and Desktop Support teams and project management.

Responsible for managerial activities, including performance appraisals, terminations and hiring.

Ensures LAN/WAN, Server, Datacenter and Telephony configurations meet organizational needs, utilizing outside support resources as appropriate.

Provides guidance and technical assistance to telephony, system and network administrators in managing and securing the systems and networks under their areas of responsibility.

Interfaces with internal and external parties, including vendors, to determine most appropriate type of hardware and software installation.

Manages and negotiates telecommunications and WAN contracts, including local and long distance, MPLS, Internet, cellular, conference calling, etc.

Participates in the creation and management of capital and operating budgets.

Researches and evaluates new technology relative to network and telephony design, operations, management and network security

Responsible for network operations and service levels for data and voice networking equipment and software.

Develops measures to analyze work load and capacity utilization of network components and servers. Manages the performance monitoring and capacity planning systems. Reports on SLA compliance and other key IT performance metrics to senior management.

Collaborates with other teams on IT backup and disaster recovery.

Develops and implements standards, procedures, and processes for the network operations group.

Works with other IT groups (including support and development) to facilitate and coordinate adoption of new technologies, standards, and technology security.

Makes recommendations and implements changes to work methods and procedures to make them more effective or to strengthen security measures.

Education / Experience

B.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience.

3 years of managerial experience in an IT department

5 years of experience with LAN/WAN technologies

CCNA/CCNP and MCSE Preferred

Typically has 7-10 years of IT work experience including managing team(s) responsible for technical service for hardware/software engineering, support and maintenance in LAN/WAN and multi-platform environment.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Organization, planning and prioritization skills

Good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills

Experience with IT governance frameworks, such as ITIL and COBIT.

Experience with regulatory guidelines, including Sarbanes-Oxley, GLBA, FERPA, HIPAA, etc.

Expert knowledge of networking and voice technology and concepts

Strong knowledge of server hardware, maintenance, and procedures

Datacenter management knowledge (Power, cooling, fire suppression)

Strong knowledge of Citrix Presentation Server systems, Microsoft and Linux server software, MS Exchange, SharePoint, MS SQL, IIS,

Expert understanding of Cisco networking and security devices (switches, routers, wireless, firewalls, ACS, NAC)

Experience managing distributed, networked, converged IP/TDM/PBX systems.

Thorough Knowledge of personal computer software applications including Microsoft Office Products

Advanced LAN/WAN skills
