GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for managing a group of technical individuals with a strong operational focus in an area of functional or technical expertise. Develops and establishes operational policies within department. May participate in development of functional strategy. Has responsibility for developing and administering budgets, schedules and performance standards for the group. Typically manages a single function but could be extended to multiple functions, locations or technical disciplines. Possibly participates in the development of the overall objectives and long-term goals of their function. Works closely with PPMG and the business to ensure the initiatives are prioritized and staffed appropriately. Typically could be first of management with human resource responsibilities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates in and contributes to evaluation of new methods and software tools to improve execution of core department responsibilities. Provides management with input in the areas of direction, staffing and forecasting.

• Establishes work priorities for technical individual contributors and/or technical leads, prepares activity and progress reports regarding the activities of the work group/department, and reviews and evaluates work of subordinates and prepares performance reports.
• Consults with IT managers in other IT departments to coordinate activities.
• Responsible for support of tools and products that are used in corporate email platform, Windows clients, MS Exchange, Imaging and anti-virus tools.
• Responsible for test and finalization of hardware and software standards for the corporate, support and maintenance activities on systems that support the company production computing platform, including ongoing server monitoring, tuning, performance and overall health.
• Provides direct management of technical individual contributors and/or technical leads and assigns individual contributor resources to various projects and directs their activities to meet the business needs.
• Contributes to and participates in definition of department policies, business practices and procedures, and enforces them as well. Contributes to and supports plans for department level initiatives, and takes leadership roles in these activities. Confers with and advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, and methods to maintain a stable infrastructure
• Regularly interact with senior managers and executives to establish broad based technical direction in his/her functional areas.
• Provides significant technical and functional leadership. Ensure that the work of individual developers and developer work groups are integrated into the IT strategy and architecture.
• Responsible for driving work plans and providing technical direction/priorities to internal functional areas.
• Prepare and present project proposals to users in functional areas. Analyzes the impact of proposals on other groups and helps to establish successful project direction.
• Develop operational goals as well as schedules, work plans and produce cost guidelines that are consistent with company standards.
