Linux Systems Administrator
Linux System Administrator is required by Niche Software House based in London. You will thrive in an exciting varied role in a small but fast growing company. You will be providing system administration, analysis, and design functions for all the company`s computer systems. At one end this involves helping design, create and run our production and development/QA environments. At the other it extends to configuring and maintaining our email system, internal office network and associated hardware). You will also developing, implementing and maintaining appropriate back-up and disaster recovery strategies for our systems and creating and maintaining documentation for all systems.
At least 5 years experience as a systems administrator in either a FreeBSD or a Linux or a Solaris environment. At least some of this must have been for a high availability, high traffic transnational web site.
Solid experience installing, configuring, tuning and maintaining Apache, Java (standard edition), Tomcat, Subversion and PostgreSQL are essential.
Experience of setting up and using warm-/hot-standby architectures for database high availability
Understanding of HTTP, DNS, SMTP and SSL is important, along with, ideally, LDAP and SNMP
Experience setting up and using monitoring tools such as Nagios and Xymon/Hobbit
Experience with bug tracking systems (eg Trac) and Java build/deployment tools (eg Ant, Maven, TeamCity)
Strong Unix shell scripting (bash, awk, etc) and ideally another scripting language (eg Python)
Knowledge of virtualisation (possibly including, but not limited to, Amazon EC2 and S3 or other cloud-based systems) would be beneficial
Enthusiastic, with a positive pro-active approach to solving problems
Strong on attention to detail and making sure issues and tasks get followed through to completion
Able to adapt to change quickly and effectively - including prioritising tasks you are working on
Concise clear verbal and written communication skills - the latter preferably demonstrated on your CV!
