Description

You will support the operation and research activities of the Advanced Grid Innovation Lab for Energy through technical development and testing of new grid technologies.

Responsibilities

• Perform modeling and simulation studies using hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) techniques.
• Develop, maintain, and manage system models using digital real-time simulation equipment.
• Execute project activities in collaboration with contractors and external research organizations.
• Conduct research in key areas including advanced transmission and distribution, cybersecurity, automation, sensors, and power electronics.
• Support project execution from technical, time, and budget management perspectives.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience in power system modeling, simulation, and control.
• Proficiency with RTDS and/or Opal-RT (ePhasoRSim, eMegaSim, HyperSim, eFPGASim) systems.
• Hands-on experience with PSS/E, DSATools, ASPEN, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, GE-MAPS, Matlab, or Scalable EXata.
• Working knowledge of power plant, substation, transmission, and distribution electrical equipment.
• Experience with digital real-time modeling, HIL, and SIL simulation and testing.
• Understanding of data acquisition, remote monitoring, and electric grid communication protocols.
• Knowledge of GPS synchronized phasor measurement units and smart grid technologies.
• Ability to analyze complex power system phenomena.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with New York state electricity grid environments and utility policies.
