Key Responsibilities:

Platform Administration:

Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain the Alation platform (cloud or on-premise).

Monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability.

Apply patches and updates, manage user roles, groups, and access controls.

User Support & Training:

Serve as the primary point of contact for Alation users and support requests.

Develop and maintain user documentation, FAQs, and training materials.

Conduct user onboarding and training sessions for data stewards, analysts, and business users.

Metadata Management:

Schedule and manage metadata ingestion from data sources (databases, BI tools, cloud platforms, etc.).

Support data stewards in curation activities like glossary creation, lineage tracking, and catalog maintenance.

Ensure metadata accuracy and compliance with data governance policies.

Integration & Automation:

Configure connectors to integrate Alation with data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Tableau, Power BI, etc.).

Work with IT and Data Engineering teams to automate metadata extraction and lineage tracking.

Leverage APIs and scripting to customize platform functionality and integrations.

Security & Compliance:

Ensure secure access to sensitive data assets within the platform.

Implement governance policies around data classification, tagging, and access.

Work with compliance and security teams to ensure alignment with data privacy regulations.

Collaboration & Strategy:

Collaborate with Data Governance, Engineering, and Business teams to promote data literacy.

Provide feedback and recommendations to improve Alation usage and adoption.

Stay up to date with Alation product updates and best practices.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

5+ years of experience in data platform administration, with 1+ years specific to Alation (or similar data catalog tools).

Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data lineage.

Hands-on experience with SQL and scripting languages (Python, Shell, etc.).

Familiarity with data platforms like Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, BigQuery, etc.

Experience integrating with BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, Looker
