Description

Project Scope

The expected process will include:

  1. Android OS / Firmware
    • Replace the manufacturer-provided Android OS with a standardized/generic Android build.
    • Determine and/or work with the client/vendor to finalize the appropriate Android image, as the exact build is currently TBD.
    • Flash the OS/firmware onto the devices and troubleshoot compatibility or installation issues.
  2. Device Provisioning
    • Configure and provision each device for enterprise use.
    • Establish a repeatable process for preparing the tablets and TVs at scale.
    • Validate device functionality following the OS installation.
  3. MDM / Security
    • Enroll and configure devices within Hexnode MDM but can have experience with any MDM, which is the target platform.
    • Configure applicable device restrictions, security settings, kiosk functionality, connectivity, and management policies.
    • Intune may be used for tablets if required, although the goal is to manage the devices through Hexnode where possible.
  4. Application Deployment
    • Deploy and validate a custom application being developed by an external vendor.
    • Ensure the application operates correctly within the managed Android environment.
    • Troubleshoot device/OS/MDM/application compatibility issues as they arise.
  5. Deployment Process
    • Develop and document a repeatable device preparation process.
    • Test the complete workflow from factory device → Android build → MDM enrollment → security configuration → application deployment → validation.
    • Prepare approximately 160 total devices for eventual deployment to retail locations.

Ideal Experience

The ideal consultant will have hands-on experience with Android device provisioning, firmware/OS flashing, and enterprise mobility deployments. Experience with Hexnode is preferred, but strong experience with other MDM/UEM platforms is acceptable if the candidate has substantial Android device/firmware experience.

Experience with ADB, Fastboot, Android Enterprise, custom/generic Android builds, kiosk environments, and physical device troubleshooting would be highly valuable.

This is a hands-on engineering/deployment engagement, not an Android application development role. The custom application is being developed by a third-party vendor; this consultant will focus on getting the underlying hardware and operating environment into a state where the devices can be securely managed and run the application successfully
