Description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud FinOps Architect to lead cloud financial management, cost optimization, financial governance, and cloud economics across enterprise AWS environments. The ideal candidate will combine strong AWS architecture knowledge with financial analysis, cost management, automation, and stakeholder management skills.

The candidate will partner with Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and business teams to optimize AWS spending, improve cost visibility, establish FinOps best practices, and ensure that cloud resources deliver measurable business value without compromising performance, reliability, or security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an enterprise-wide AWS FinOps strategy aligned with business and financial objectives.
  • Analyze AWS spending patterns and identify cost optimization opportunities across EC2, EKS, ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, Redshift, networking, and other AWS services.
  • Implement and manage AWS cost management solutions using AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), and AWS Billing and Cost Management.
  • Establish cost allocation strategies using AWS tagging standards, cost categories, accounts, organizational units, and AWS Organizations.
  • Develop cloud cost dashboards, reports, forecasts, and showback/chargeback models for engineering and finance teams.
  • Optimize compute costs through rightsizing, Auto Scaling, Graviton adoption, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, Spot Instances, and workload scheduling.
  • Identify storage and data transfer cost optimization opportunities involving S3 lifecycle policies, EBS volumes, snapshots, data transfer, and inter-region traffic.
  • Evaluate commitment-based discounts and purchasing strategies to balance savings, utilization, coverage, and flexibility.
  • Build automated cost anomaly detection, budget alerts, and remediation workflows using AWS-native services and scripting.
  • Define unit economics and cost-per-business-metric reporting to connect cloud expenditure with business outcomes.
  • Implement FinOps governance, cloud cost policies, budget ownership, and accountability across application and platform teams.
  • Establish cost forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, and cloud expenditure planning processes.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to incorporate cost efficiency into application design, cloud migrations, and modernization initiatives.
  • Integrate cost controls into Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and platform engineering workflows.
  • Evaluate AWS Well-Architected cost optimization recommendations and drive continuous improvement.
  • Present cost optimization findings, savings opportunities, risks, and financial performance to senior leadership.
  • Mentor engineers and promote FinOps culture across technical and non-technical teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, AWS architecture, cloud operations, FinOps, or related technology roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services, architecture, billing, pricing, and cloud consumption models.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing cloud cost optimization strategies in large-scale AWS environments.
  • Expertise in AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), and AWS Billing and Cost Management.
  • Strong understanding of EC2, EBS, S3, RDS, EKS/ECS, Lambda, networking, data transfer, and other cost-driving AWS services.
  • Experience with Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, Spot Instances, rightsizing, and utilization optimization.
  • Proficiency in cost allocation, tagging governance, budgeting, forecasting, and chargeback/showback models.
  • Strong analytical skills in cost analysis, financial modeling, variance reporting, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Experience building dashboards and reports using tools such as Amazon QuickSight, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, Bash, or other scripting languages for cost analysis and automation.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
  • Understanding of AWS Organizations, consolidated billing, multi-account architectures, and enterprise cloud governance.
  • Ability to communicate complex cloud cost concepts to finance, engineering, architecture, and executive stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional certification.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Professional.
  • Experience with third-party cloud cost management platforms such as Apptio Cloudability, Flexera One, CloudHealth, or Harness CCM.
  • Knowledge of the FinOps Framework and its principles, capabilities, and operating model.
  • Experience with Kubernetes cost optimization and tools such as Kubecost.
  • Experience optimizing data platforms, serverless applications, AI/ML workloads, and high-volume cloud environments.
  • Understanding of multi-cloud cost management across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Experience with cloud unit economics, cost-per-customer analysis, and business-value measurement.
  • Experience supporting cloud migrations, data center exits, and enterprise modernization programs
