Description

Responsibilities 

1. Conduct deep-dive performance analysis of Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL databases,

identifying query bottlenecks, inefficient execution plans, and missing/redundant indexes 

2. Optimize converted PL/pgSQL stored procedures for performance, addressing patterns that performed well in T-SQL but require different approaches in PostgreSQL 

3. Tune Aurora PostgreSQL configuration parameters (work_mem, shared_buffers,

effective_cache_size, etc.) for high-concurrency, burst-traffic workloads

4. Implement and optimize connection pooling (PgBouncer/RDS Proxy) to handle traffic surges efficiently

5. Design and implement read replica strategies for load distribution

6. Support residual MS SQL to PostgreSQL migration activities using AWS SCT and AWS DMS

7. Conduct performance benchmarking and capacity planning for peak-load scenarios

8. Implement database monitoring, alerting, and performance dashboards

Required Qualifications 

* Database administration and performance tuning experience 

* Deep expertise in PostgreSQL internals, query optimizer, and performance tuning (EXPLAIN ANALYZE, pg_stat_statements, auto_explain)

* Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL (for migration context)

* Hands-on experience with AWS database services: Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS DMS,AWS SCT

* Experience with connection pooling solutions (PgBouncer, Amazon RDS Proxy)

* Knowledge of high-availability and replication strategies in Aurora

* Experience with database performance under high-concurrency, burst-traffic conditions
