Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimize Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL environments, ensuring performance, availability, security, and reliability.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate database infrastructure provisioning and management.
• Monitor database health, troubleshoot complex production issues, and identify opportunities for performance improvements.
• Develop, optimize, and tune SQL queries, database configurations, and related solutions to improve efficiency and performance.
• Establish and maintain database standards, operational procedures, security controls, and change management practices.
• Automate routine database administration, monitoring, maintenance, and operational tasks.
• Plan and execute database migrations, including migrations between AWS database platforms and from on-premises Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2 for i (iSeries) to AWS PostgreSQL.
• Support high-availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery initiatives to ensure business continuity.
• Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and data teams to support database integrations, application requirements, and cloud modernization efforts.
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for PostgreSQL and AWS database technologies, providing technical guidance and mentoring team members.

Qualifications

• Required
  • Strong hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL databases within AWS, particularly Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Proven experience with database performance monitoring, SQL query optimization, indexing, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Terraform configurations for cloud infrastructure automation.
  • Strong understanding of database security, access management, backup/recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience supporting database migrations, including migrations from Microsoft SQL Server or other relational database platforms to PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in SQL development, database administration, and automation of operational tasks.
  • Experience implementing database standards, managing database changes, and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate across technical teams.
• Preferred
  • Experience migrating databases from IBM DB2 for i (iSeries) to AWS PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with database migrations between Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, and other AWS database platforms.
  • Familiarity with AWS database migration services and tools.
  • Experience supporting large-scale database modernization or cloud migration initiatives.
  • Previous experience serving as a technical SME or mentoring other database administrators
