Description

You will manage and support large-scale SQL Server deployments and Azure Synapse Analytics environments in Calgary.

This role is on-site.

Responsibilities

• Administer Azure Synapse Analytics and Dedicated SQL Pools, including resource creation and schema management.
• Optimize database performance by troubleshooting expensive queries, blocking, deadlocking, and excessive waits.
• Manage database security frameworks, including the implementation of database roles and Active Directory integration.
• Support 24/7 production, development, and test environments across Azure SQL and Managed Instances.
• Execute data migration tasks and manage ETL/ELT workflows.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of MS SQL Server database administration experience.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics and Dedicated SQL Pool Workload Management.
• Proficiency in T-SQL and Azure PowerShell.
• Experience with Azure SQL and Managed Instance in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of MS SQL, Azure portal, and Active Directory/Azure Active Directory.
• Deep understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling.
• Expertise in performance analysis, query optimization, and root cause analysis.
• Experience managing backups, restores, and database security.
• Understanding of network interactions between on-premise and cloud environments.

Preferred Skills

• Unix shell scripting skills.
