Description

Reverse engineer, optimize, and modernize complex, often undocumented database environments and their interacting Java services.

This role is hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Reverse engineer database schemas, including tables, indexes, constraints, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
• Analyze production-representative data to infer business logic, entities, relationships, and cardinality.
• Reconstruct logical and physical ER models and document current-state architectures.
• Read and analyze Java application code to understand ORM mappings, transaction logic, and schema maintenance behavior.
• Redesign schemas for query efficiency, scalability, and maintainability while optimizing SQL execution plans and indexing strategies.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience in database administration or data architecture.
• Strong expertise in relational database design, SQL optimization, and performance tuning.
• Proven ability to reverse engineer undocumented databases and legacy systems.
• Deep understanding of ER modeling, normalization, indexing, and join optimization.
• Read-level Java proficiency, specifically with Spring / Spring Boot, Hibernate / JPA, and JDBC.
• Experience with SQL Server, AWS RDS (Managed MS SQL Server), or similar DBMS platforms.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with schema versioning, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud database monitoring tools.
• Experience administering enterprise databases for backup, recovery, replication, and high availability.
