Description

Manage physical layer installations and fiber optic connectivity within the data center environment. Own the installation, termination, and testing of all fiber and copper infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Install and mount racks, patch panels, and hardware, including grounding for all equipment.
• Terminate and breakout single-mode and multi-mode fiber, including simplex, duplex jumper cords, and indoor tight buffered fiber.
• Perform mechanical and fusion splicing for all fiber cable types, including building entrance, maintenance space, and direct buried splices.
• Execute end-to-end testing and troubleshooting using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO to identify and correct network-wide issues.
• Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards.

Required Skills

• Extensive experience with fiber optic termination (LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MP0/MTP connectors).
• Proficiency in testing and troubleshooting MMF and SMF systems using OTDR and PMLS.
• Hands-on experience with Unicam, anaerobic, and heat-cure termination methods.
• Ability to use trade tools including tone sets, volt-ohmmeters, punch tools (110/66 block), and crimp tools.
• Capability to work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
• Availability for on-call support after business hours and travel to various sites.
• High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Skills

• 3-5 years of dedicated fiber experience.
• Industry certifications such as Corning, FOA, or BICSI.
• Previous data center installation or OSP/Confined Space Entry experience.
