Design and develop interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that communicate key metrics, trends, and insights clearly and effectively
Partner with business stakeholders, analysts, and data teams to gather requirements, understand KPIs, and translate business questions into compelling visual narratives
Select the most appropriate visualization types, tools, and techniques based on the nature of the data and the needs of the audience
Connect visualization tools to enterprise data sources including cloud data platforms, relational databases, APIs, and flat files
Build and optimize underlying data models, semantic layers, and calculated metrics that power accurate and performant visualizations
Apply data visualization best practices around layout, color, typography, accessibility, interactivity, and information hierarchy
Establish and maintain visualization standards, design templates, style guides, and component libraries to ensure consistency across the reporting environment
Optimize dashboard performance through efficient data modeling, query tuning, caching strategies, and incremental data loading
Collaborate with data platform engineers and modelers to surface data quality issues and ensure visualizations are built on reliable, well-documented data assets
Support self-service analytics adoption by developing user documentation, training materials, and reusable report templates
Conduct peer reviews of visualization work and provide technical guidance to other contributors in the BI environment
Required Qualifications
6+ years of experience in data visualization, business intelligence engineering, or a closely related discipline
Expert proficiency in one or more leading visualization platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Qlik Sense, or equivalent
Strong SQL skills with the ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot queries against large relational and cloud-based datasets
Solid understanding of data modeling concepts including star and snowflake schemas, relationships, aggregations, and calculated fields as applied to BI semantic layers
Experience connecting visualization tools to modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Azure Synapse, or Amazon Redshift
Strong grasp of data visualization principles and UX best practices including accessibility standards (WCAG), color theory, visual hierarchy, and responsive design
Demonstrated ability to gather and translate business requirements into polished, production-ready dashboards and reports
Proven ability to work independently, manage a pipeline of deliverables, and communicate proactively in a contractor or consulting capacity
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in more than one visualization platform is strongly preferred
Familiarity with Python or R for data preparation, statistical analysis, or advanced analytics integration within visualization environments
Knowledge of data governance, data cataloging, and metadata management practices and how they relate to trustworthy reporting
Experience building visualization solutions within a Center of Excellence (COE), enterprise BI governance framework, or centralized data team
Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices applied to BI development and deployment workflows
Background in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, retail, or government is a plus
Relevant certifications in Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or cloud data platforms are welcome
