Required Experience

Candidates should have:

  • Minimum 5 years of IT experience working with Business Intelligence tools and systems.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on Power BI experience developing enterprise-level analytical reports, dashboards, and data models.
  • Advanced experience with:
    • Power BI
    • DAX
    • Power BI semantic models
    • Power BI Report Builder
    • Paginated reports
    • Power Query
    • Power BI workspace management
    • Report and model performance tuning
  • Advanced SQL development experience, including:
    • CTEs
    • Window functions
    • Analytical queries
    • SQL/query optimization
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Dimensional modeling
    • Star schema design
    • Fact and dimension modeling
  • Hands-on Snowflake experience, including:
    • Performance tuning
    • Clustering keys
    • Compute optimization
    • Cost optimization/control
    • RBAC
    • Roles
    • Warehouse sizing
    • Data governance
  • Experience integrating Power BI with Snowflake, including appropriate connection modes.
  • Experience with metadata management, data lineage, and technical/reporting documentation.
  • Experience embedding Power BI reports within web-based or internal applications.

 

Preferred / Plus Skills

  • Experience with CI/CD practices for Power BI.
  • Experience using version control for BI/reporting solutions.
  • Prior experience supporting enterprise-scale analytics or government/public-sector reporting environments would be valuable for the nature of this FDOT assignment.

 

Education

Bachelor's degree in:

  • Computer Science
  • Information Systems
  • A related technical field

OR equivalent professional work experience. Equivalent work experience may substitute for the education requirement.

 

Key Responsibilities

The selected consultant will:

  • Design and develop Power BI dataflows and semantic models using dimensional modeling best practices.
  • Develop advanced DAX measures and analytical logic for enterprise reporting.
  • Create intuitive, user-friendly, high-performance Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries, including CTEs, window functions, and analytical queries.
  • Retrieve, transform, and prepare Snowflake data for reporting and analytics.
  • Collaborate with Snowflake data engineering teams to optimize fact and dimension tables for Power BI consumption.
  • Integrate Power BI with Snowflake using appropriate connection modes.
  • Optimize query folding, performance, and data reliability.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues involving Power BI, DAX, SQL, and Snowflake compute layers.
  • Maintain data lineage, metadata, report specifications, and supporting documentation.
  • Translate business requirements into semantic models, dashboards, and actionable analytical reports.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, SMEs, business users, and other stakeholders.
