Description

Lead production support, stability, and performance optimization for DB2 and IMS databases in IBM mainframe (z/OS) environments.

This role is on-site.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 production support and incident response for DB2 and IMS environments.
• Execute database maintenance including backups, recoveries, reorgs, image copies, and utility execution.
• Optimize performance by tuning SQL queries, buffer pools, access paths, and IMS database segments.
• Manage database security through user access control, RACF integration, and permission management.
• Implement schema changes via change control processes and maintain operational runbooks.

Required Skills

• 10+ years of hands-on experience supporting DB2 for z/OS and IMS in production.
• Proficiency with IMS Full-Function and Fast Path databases, DL/I calls, and PSB/DBD maintenance.
• Deep knowledge of DB2 internals, including logs, buffer pools, and catalog/directory.
• Experience with mainframe tools such as SPUFI, QMF, BMC, CA-DB2/IMS tools, and IBM utilities.
• Strong command of JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and mainframe batch job troubleshooting.
• Experience with DB2 Data Sharing and IMS Sysplex environments.
• Familiarity with automation tools and schedulers like Control-M or CA-7.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix scripting using Shell or Python.

Preferred Skills

• IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2 for z/OS certification.
• Experience working in regulated environments such as banking, insurance, or healthcare.
