Description

You will design and maintain computing architecture and hardware-software integration for observatory sites.

This role is on-site.

Responsibilities

• Configure and integrate scientific hardware including sensors, cameras, switches, servers, and edge computers with software systems.
• Design and maintain container images using Singularity, Docker, or Podman for data-capture and processing services.
• Build CI/CD pipelines for automated remote rollouts and setup data transfer automation for onsite and offsite storage.
• Write and maintain code for data acquisition, system control, automation, and monitoring tools.
• Investigate and resolve intermittent system failures through remote diagnostics and long-term fixes.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in Python and/or C++ for device control or scientific applications.
• Hands-on experience with containerization tools: Singularity, Docker, or Podman.
• Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong Linux environments and remote administration skills.
• Knowledge of networking, firewalls, and secure access tools like SSH and VPN.
• Experience with device interfaces such as USB, GPIO, or serial communication.
• Experience with systems programming and hardware-software integration.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with computer vision or scientific sensor platforms.
