Description

You will modernize mainframe applications by designing and implementing REST APIs using IBM z/OS Connect Designer.

This role is on-site.

Responsibilities

• Generate provider and requester projects using z/OS Connect Designer, API toolkit, or Visual Studio Code.
• Map mainframe data structures to JSON and back using JSONata or built-in mapping functions.
• Design API lifecycle management with a strong understanding of REST APIs and OpenAPI 3.0.
• Implement mainframe security concepts including authentication, authorization, and API gateway controls.
• Troubleshoot and deploy using JCL, datasets, and batch jobs within z/OS development workflows.

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience with IBM z/OS Connect Designer or API toolkit.
• Working knowledge of z/OS environments: CICS, IMS, Db2, COBOL, and PL/I.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and OpenAPI 3.0.
• Ability to map data structures to JSON (JSONata or similar).
• Familiarity with mainframe security and API gateway controls.
• 10+ years of professional experience.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Azure API Management.
• Background in enterprise integration or hybrid-cloud modernization.
