Description

Lead the design and development of high-performing Java applications on Linux while driving mainframe modernization efforts to bridge legacy systems with modern infrastructure.

This role is hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop Java applications across Linux-based and mainframe-based infrastructures.
  • Lead modernization initiatives connecting legacy COBOL, JCL, and DB2 systems with new Java applications.
  • Provide technical leadership through software architecture guidance, design reviews, and coding standards enforcement.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming as Scrum Master.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and BizOps to automate deployments and resolve application performance and reliability issues.

Required Skills

  • 8+ years of software development experience in Java and Linux environments.
  • Strong Linux command line proficiency and shell scripting skills for task automation.
  • 3+ years of experience with file transfer applications (Connect Direct) and protocols (SFTP, FTPS).
  • Hands-on experience with IBM mainframe technologies including COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and z/OS.
  • Expertise in SQL queries and relational databases such as DB2, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience orchestrating release workflows and CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or XL Release.
  • Knowledge of secure coding standards (OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT) and security protocols (X.509, SSH Keys, PGP).
  • Experience acting as a technical lead or Scrum Master within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Ability to build regression, performance, and deployment verification tests.

Preferred Skills

  • Direct experience bridging legacy mainframe systems with modern Linux-based architectures.
