• Architecture & Engineering: Lead architecture and system design for complex digital initiatives across web, mobile, APIs, and backend services, while staying hands-on through coding, code reviews, technical spikes, and proof-of-concepts. • Technical Standards: Define and promote reusable architecture patterns, APIs, engineering standards, and development practices that improve consistency, quality, and maintainability across teams. • Performance & Reliability: Drive scalability, performance, resiliency, availability, and production readiness; lead investigation and resolution of complex application and production issues. • Observability: Establish strong application monitoring and observability practices using Dynatrace or similar tools, covering performance, logging, tracing, alerting, availability, and production diagnostics. • Technical Problem Solving: Evaluate complex technical options and trade-offs, resolve architectural risks and dependencies, and address technical debt and integration challenges. • Technical Consulting: Partner with product, engineering, UX, security, infrastructure, and data teams to translate business and customer needs into pragmatic technical solutions and provide expert guidance on key technical decisions. • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Influence engineering teams without direct authority, mentor senior engineers and technical leads, and raise the overall technical capability and engineering quality of the organization. Required Skills • Significant experience in software engineering, system architecture, and large-scale digital applications. • Excellent hands-on coding skills with strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot and experience with React and/or Node.js. • Strong knowledge of APIs, microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native application design. • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including application architecture, deployment, resiliency, security, and integration. • Strong working knowledge of MongoDB, Redis, or similar modern data and caching technologies. • Strong observability and monitoring experience, including Dynatrace or similar platforms. • Strong understanding of scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, and production readiness. • Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and make sound technical trade-offs across multiple teams. • Excellent communication and technical decision-making skills, with the ability to influence both technical and business stakeholders. Technical/Functional Skills • Principal Engineer to serve as a senior technical consultant for Digital Retail Web and App engineering teams. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on architecture, software engineering, technical problem solving, and engineering excellence across complex, high-impact initiatives. The role will influence technical direction across teams and help deliver scalable, secure, reliable, and high-performing digital experiences. • Experience with MariaDB or similar relational databases. • Experience with Azure Functions / Function Apps, serverless, and event-driven solutions. • Experience building high-volume digital retail, e-commerce, web, or mobile applications. • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, infrastructure automation, and developer productivity. • Experience with application modernization, platform engineering, or technical debt reduction. • Relevant Azure, cloud, or architecture certifications
