Description

You will manage the mainframe database environment to ensure continuous availability and system stability. You own the IMS DBA lifecycle, from daily operations to complex disaster recovery exercises.

Responsibilities

• Execute IMS restart procedures, including COLD, WARM, and ERE modes.
• Debug and diagnose DBMS system and utility software to resolve technical issues.
• Design, code, and maintain DBMS system exits.
• Perform performance analysis and tuning for DBMS subsystems.
• Lead projects and coordinate multiple tasks under resource constraints.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience in database administration.
• Expertise in IMS Sysplex and data sharing.
• Deep knowledge of IMS SYSGEN, including defining transactions and programs.
• Proficiency with IMS Control Blocks: DBDs, PSBs, and ACBs.
• Understanding of IMS Database Recovery Control (DBRC) and RECON datasets.
• Knowledge of IMS Logging: OLDS, SLDS, WADS, and RLDS.
• Experience with Type 1 and Type 2 IMS commands and utilities.
• Technical understanding of Checkpoint-Restart logic and Secondary Indexing.
• Knowledge of Fast Path database processing (MSDBs and DEDBs) and access methods (HDAM, HIDAM, PHDAM, PHIDAM).
• Proficiency in JCL, TSO, SDSF, JES2, SYSVIEW, SMP/E, and IMS Monitoring Tool.
• Working knowledge of IMS Upgrades and DL/I vs BMP modes.
• Experience with DBMS, Oracle, and SQL.
