Description

You will design, implement, and maintain automation solutions for mainframe platforms (z/OS, DB2, IMS, CICS, MQ, JES2/3) to reduce manual effort and improve operational reliability.

Responsibilities

• Develop automation scripts using Rexx, CLIST, JCL, and Ansible for z/OS to handle routine tasks, health checks, and system recovery.
• Implement WTOR confirmation automation with validation logic and automate batch scheduling workflows in IBM Workload Scheduler.
• Create self-healing mechanisms for common issues, such as MQ transmit queue backlogs, DB2 log utilization, and IMS region restarts.
• Build real-time monitoring dashboards and event-driven automation for proactive remediation, integrating with SIEM/SOC tools for security compliance.
• Ensure all automation adheres to audit requirements, maintaining version-controlled repositories and capturing execution logs for governance.

Required Skills

• 5+ years in Mainframe System Programming with a strong focus on automation.
• Proficiency in Rexx, CLIST, JCL, and IBM Workload Scheduler.
• Strong understanding of z/OS subsystems (DB2, IMS, CICS, MQ) and operational workflows.
• Experience with WTOR handling, command automation, and event-driven triggers.
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and DevOps practices for mainframe environments.
• Knowledge of REST APIs for mainframe integration with enterprise automation tools.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON, RMF/SMF, or IBM Z Monitoring Suite.
• Ability to write optional Python for z/OS is a plus.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to Ansible for z/OS or similar automation frameworks.
• Certifications in IBM z/OS, Automation tools, or ITIL.
