Description

Manage mainframe capacity planning, performance tuning, and workload forecasting for z/OS environments.

This role is remote.

Responsibilities

• Analyze environment challenges and recommend configuration or WLM changes to optimize performance.
• Calculate expected utilization for new workloads and provide sizing requests for incoming and outgoing traffic.
• Create MLC, VUE, and MSU forecasts using data modeling and capacity metrics.
• Make performance tuning recommendations regarding memory, LPAR weights, and hardware plans.
• Collaborate with SMEs across OS, CICS, DB2, and Operations to align capacity with business metrics.

Required Skills

• 8+ years of experience in hardware configuration, OLTP, batch, and database management.
• Deep knowledge of z/OS architecture, z-Series hardware, and I/O configurations.
• Experience with z/OS Workload Manager (WLM) functions including service goals, resource groups, and soft-caps.
• Proficiency in interpreting SCRT (IBM sub-capacity reporting) reports.
• Hands-on experience with mainframe monitors such as Mainview, CMF, or EJES.
• Technical expertise in CICS, DB2, MQ, and WAS configurations.
• Strong command of JCL, MXG, and SAS / WPS.
• Advanced understanding of IBM licensing models and costs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
