Description

Lead the modernization of mainframe systems to Java/Spring Boot architecture, defining end-state designs and migration blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Define modernization blueprints, migration patterns, and reference architectures for Java/Spring Boot systems.
  • Analyze COBOL programs, JCL workflows, CICS/IMS transactions, DB2 schemas, and VSAM files to map legacy components to modern equivalents.
  • Develop current-state and target-state architecture diagrams, identifying application dependencies and integration points.
  • Guide design decisions for API-first, microservices, and event-driven systems, ensuring coexistence patterns during transition.
  • Review converted Java code for quality and performance, establishing coding standards and DevSecOps practices.

Required Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in mainframe technologies: COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM, IMS.
  • 5+ years of Java and Spring Boot architecture with microservices design experience.
  • Hands-on experience with mainframe modernization or transformation programs.
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture (Kafka, MQ), API gateways, and REST API standards.
  • Experience with batch processing at scale (Spring Batch) and RDBMS/NoSQL databases.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines using Git, Jenkins, GitHub, or Azure DevOps.
  • Ability to drive capacity planning, performance testing, and resiliency strategies.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with automated code conversion tools (Micro Focus, Heirloom, Astadia, IBM Wazi).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
