Description

Administer IBM z/VM and Linux on Z environments, managing virtual machine lifecycles, system maintenance, and operational stability.

This role is hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain IBM z/VM systems, including VMSES/E, DirMaint, and RACF security integration.
• Manage Linux distributions (RHEL, SUSE, Ubuntu) on IBM Z hardware, ensuring performance, patching, and security compliance.
• Perform system maintenance including RSUs, PTFs, APARs, and hardware configuration updates via HMC.
• Automate provisioning and operational tasks using REXX, Shell scripting, and Python.
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, VM failures, and Linux system errors while providing L2/L3 production support.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience with IBM z/VM (6.x/7.x) and Linux on Z (RHEL/SUSE/Ubuntu).
• Hands-on experience with virtual machine provisioning, scaling, and decommissioning.
• Proficiency in system maintenance processes including RSUs, APARs, and VMSES/E.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for z/VM system issues and Linux OS performance.
• Knowledge of HMC operations, IPL processes, DASD storage, and z/VM networking.
• Experience with ITIL change management and ServiceNow workflows.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with monitoring tools like Grafana and OMEGAMON.
• Familiarity with Ansible for automation and Sysplex configurations.
