Description

You will perform complex microbiological examinations and analyses to identify bacteria and yeast within the Antimicrobial Resistance Lab Network.

Responsibilities

• Perform full-range microbiological analyses including culture, biochemical tests, PCR, and WGS on clinical specimens.
• Isolate and identify pathogens such as E.coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Candida auris.
• Document all quality control and quality assurance activities in compliance with CLIA regulations.
• Develop and research new testing procedures to solve public health laboratory problems.
• Analyze and identify unusual specimens using analytical judgment to draw logical conclusions.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience in microbiology or related sub-specialties.
• Proficiency in PCR and WGS techniques.
• Extensive knowledge of microbiology principles, theories, and laboratory safety practices.
• Ability to operate standard technical equipment, complex scientific apparatus, and automated analytical techniques.
• Knowledge of CLIA regulations and ability to meet personnel certification requirements as a technologist.
• Experience compiling, analyzing, and preparing technical laboratory reports.
• Ability to participate in proficiency testing programs and identify QA problems.
• Strong technical communication skills for interacting with health departments and the public.

Preferred Skills

• Cross-training capability in molecular, viral, and serological techniques.
