Job Summary
STAFFXPERT LLC is seeking a Network Software Engineer on behalf of our client in a remote setting to lead the design, development, and evolution of high-performance networking software for massively parallel processing (MPP) platforms supporting enterprise database and AI solutions.
This role offers an opportunity to work across Linux kernel development, HPC, distributed systems, InfiniBand, Ethernet, RDMA/RoCE, and high-performance networking, while influencing architecture and mentoring engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design and evolve scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant networking software for high-speed, low-latency interconnects.
Evaluate and drive adoption of emerging technologies across Linux, networking adapters, DPUs, accelerators, and interconnect fabrics.
Lead complex system-level debugging and root-cause analysis across hardware, firmware, operating systems, and networking layers.
Conduct research initiatives and proof-of-concepts to evaluate emerging technologies and performance improvements.
Partner with product, hardware, and systems engineering teams to prototype, benchmark, and productionize platform enhancements.
Establish performance benchmarks, validation methodologies, and success metrics for networking technologies.
Contribute to platform architecture and technical roadmaps through industry research and technology evaluation.
Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.
Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools to improve development, testing, and debugging efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years of experience in high-performance Linux systems or networking software development.
Strong background in HPC or large-scale distributed systems.
Production experience with Linux kernel and driver development using C.
Strong expertise in InfiniBand and Ethernet networking, including RDMA and RoCE.
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, Linux networking, tuning, and diagnostic tools.
Experience with packet-level analysis and Linux kernel debugging tools such as tcpdump, kgdb, and crash.
Experience developing and optimizing high-throughput, low-latency data transport protocols.
Strong knowledge of the Linux kernel, including DKMS, driver lifecycle management, and kernel compatibility.
Proficiency in C, Bash, and Python.
Experience with MPP systems and message-passing interfaces.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools for software design, coding, testing, or debugging.
Experience working in both bare-metal and virtualized environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DPUs, SmartNICs, or hardware offload technologies.
Hands-on experience with RDMA verbs, DPDK, XDP, or eBPF.
Experience with high-speed Ethernet technologies such as 100G, 200G, 400G, or 800G.
Experience with NUMA, CPU affinity, cache locality, and memory bandwidth optimization.
Exposure to distributed storage or database platforms.
Experience collaborating with hardware vendors on NIC, switch, or accelerator performance and integration.
Contributions to open-source networking, Linux kernel, or systems software projects.
What You'll Bring
Strong technical leadership and systems-level problem-solving skills.
Ability to lead critical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis efforts.
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to influence technical decisions without direct authority.
Strong intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning.
Ability to thrive in complex, fast-paced, and evolving technical environments
