About the role

Our client is migrating a large fleet of Kubernetes / OpenShift clusters to the next platform release (1.6). The upgrade keeps the platform and its add-on services on vendor-supported versions and covers both standard in-service upgrades and blue/green-style upgrades across the fleet. This is a hands-on engineering role responsible for planning and executing those upgrades safely and repeatably while minimizing service disruption.

Responsibilities

Execute the 1.6 platform migration across the cluster fleet using standard in-service and blue/green-style upgrades.
Plan, validate and perform Kubernetes / OpenShift cluster upgrades with minimal service disruption.
Keep the platform and its add-on services on vendor-supported versions throughout the migration.
Deploy, configure and support Kubernetes / OpenShift distributions across the fleet.
Automate upgrade and operational workflows with Bash, Ansible and Python.
Manage configuration and changes through Git / GitLab / GitHub and CI/CD workflows.
Troubleshoot platform, networking (NFS, SDN), storage and add-on service issues.
Document procedures and runbooks; work with the operations and deployment teams.

Required

6+ years of relevant experience (Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of work experience).
Linux system administration.
Automation with Bash, Ansible and Python.
Deploying, configuring and supporting Kubernetes or OpenShift distributions, including cluster upgrades.
Working knowledge of the Kubernetes API server.
NFS and networking fundamentals.
Git, GitLab, GitHub and CI/CD workflows.
Strong written and verbal communication.
Prior work on a large US telecom carrier's cloud/container platform.

Preferred

SDN concepts and protocols; OVN-Kubernetes; Multus CNI.
Service mesh for Layer 7 networking; Service Proxy for Kubernetes.
NetApp storage; object storage (SwiftStack / MinIO).
Working knowledge of OpenStack.
Virtualization and Linux certifications (e.g. RHCSA/RHCE, CKA, OpenShift certifications)
