• Enterprise testing product team under Chief Development Office (not an app team)
• Major push to increase automation across the bank (depth and coverage)
• Focus on functional / end-to-end testing (not unit testing)
• Current state: ~80% use cases covered by standard tools (Playwright, Karate); ~20% are complex edge cases

True Problem This Role Solves

• Teams are being asked to automate but lack guidance for edge cases
• High volume of tickets/escalations related to automation gaps
• Role exists to reduce escalations and create scalable solutions

Day-to-Day Reality

• Acts as L3/L4 escalation engineer for test automation (not QA execution)
• Active in 24/7 Teams support channel (office hours)
• Diagnoses complex issues across tools, frameworks, and pipelines
• Designs solutions and publishes patterns/standards

Types of Edge Case Work

• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
• Batch processing systems
• Data pipelines and non-UI systems
• Windows desktop / legacy apps
• Middleware and atypical architectures

Profile Erin Actually Wants

• Strong generalist software engineer (not narrow QA profile)
• Hands-on test automation experience required
• Tech stack preference: Java, C#, Python
• Strong communication and technical writing skills
• Ability to consult and guide teams, not just build
