Description

The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (Windows) is a 6‑month+ contract role with a cloud‑first, engineering‑focused emphasis. This position is responsible for designing, automating, and operating enterprise Windows infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and hybrid on‑premises environments.

The role prioritizes cloud engineering, automation, infrastructure‑as‑code, and DevOps collaboration, with on‑prem systems serving as a supporting component rather than the primary focus. The ideal candidate brings an engineering mindset, strong cloud depth, and experience building scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure through automation.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering

  • Design, build, and support cloud‑first Windows infrastructure across AWS and Azure, with limited but critical on‑prem integration.
  • Architect and manage hybrid cloud environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Engineer and maintain virtualized environments using VMware and Hyper‑V.
  • Design and implement AWS services including EC2, IAM, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, and Workspaces.
  • Design and support Azure services including Virtual Machines, Azure AD, and Azure Virtual Desktop.

Automation & DevOps Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain automation using PowerShell, Python, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) practices.
  • Implement automated provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and remediation to reduce manual operations.
  • Collaborate closely with DevOps and application teams to support CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.
  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Monitoring, Reliability & Operations

  • Implement and optimize monitoring and observability platforms across cloud, virtualized, and Windows environments.
  • Leverage AI‑assisted analytics and automation to enhance performance monitoring, incident detection, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure infrastructure meets reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) objectives.
  • Participate in incident, change, and problem management processes aligned with ITIL practices.

Security, Compliance & Governance

  • Enforce Zero Trust security principles across cloud and on‑prem environments.
  • Support compliance requirements including SOX, Disaster Recovery (DR), and Business Continuity Planning (BCP).
  • Participate in DR and BCP testing, validation of backups, and recovery procedures.
  • Assist with adherence to enterprise security policies and regulatory controls.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver aligned technical solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Mentor junior engineers and administrators, promoting modern cloud and automation best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements aligned to business and infrastructure strategy.

Core Competencies

  • Windows Server Administration (Enterprise Environments)
  • AWS (EC2, IAM, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, Workspaces)
  • Microsoft Azure (VMs, Azure AD, Virtual Desktop)
  • VMware & Hyper‑V Virtualization
  • PowerShell & Python Automation
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Hybrid Cloud Architecture
  • AI‑Assisted Monitoring & Automation
  • DevOps Practices & CI/CD Collaboration
  • Zero Trust Security & Compliance (SOX, DR/BCP)
  • Monitoring & Observability Platforms
  • ITIL Processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering or cloud engineering roles.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with AWS and/or Azure in enterprise environments.
  • Solid Windows Server background with a focus on engineering and automation, not just administration.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell; Python experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in regulated or compliance‑driven environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical teams.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast‑paced, hybrid cloud contract environment
