Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Spanner, database modernization, schema migration, Change Data Capture (CDC), replication, data pipelines, high availability, and disaster recovery.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience modernizing traditional relational databases, particularly Informix, into Google Cloud Spanner, along with expertise in Spanner-specific architecture, performance optimization, multi-region configurations, and real-time data synchronization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable database solutions using Google Cloud Spanner.
• Migrate and modernize Informix database schemas to Cloud Spanner.
• Redesign relational data models to align with Cloud Spanner architecture and best practices.
• Implement Spanner-specific schema structures, including interleaved tables, primary key strategies, indexing, and data distribution patterns.
• Design and implement Change Data Capture (CDC) solutions for real-time and near-real-time data synchronization.
• Develop bi-directional replication between Cloud Spanner and on-premises/local database environments.
• Ensure data consistency, ordering, reliability, and appropriate conflict handling across replicated environments.
• Build scalable data pipelines using Google Cloud Dataflow and Apache Beam.
• Develop ETL/ELT pipelines for data migration, transformation, integration, and reporting.
• Utilize Spanner Data Boost to optimize analytical and reporting workloads.
• Design highly available, fault-tolerant, and multi-region database architectures.
• Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR), failover, and failback strategies and procedures.
• Perform capacity planning, database sizing, performance tuning, and cost optimization.
• Establish database observability through monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance metrics.
• Support production and Day-2 database operations, including troubleshooting, incident resolution, and performance improvements.
• Collaborate with application, cloud, infrastructure, and data engineering teams throughout design, testing, deployment, and production readiness.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Spanner.
• Proven expertise in Cloud Spanner schema design, database architecture, performance tuning, and optimization.
• Experience migrating Informix databases/schemas to Google Cloud Spanner.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, data modeling, indexing, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Spanner-specific schema structures, including interleaved tables.
• Strong experience implementing Change Data Capture (CDC) solutions.
• Experience with bi-directional database replication and synchronization between cloud and on-premises environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Dataflow and Apache Beam.
• Experience building scalable ETL/ELT and data integration pipelines.
• Experience with Spanner Data Boost and reporting workload optimization.
• Strong knowledge of database High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR).
• Experience designing multi-region database architectures and implementing failover/failback strategies.
• Strong knowledge of capacity planning, database sizing, monitoring, observability, and cost optimization.
• Proven troubleshooting and database performance optimization skills.
• Experience supporting production databases and Day-2 operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong background in database modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
• Experience working with large-scale, highly available, business-critical database environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across application, infrastructure, cloud, and data engineering teams
