We are  seeking a Maintenance Window Engineer to support planned production network implementation and maintenance activities within the Professional Services organization. This role is focused on hands-on execution of approved maintenance window work in large-scale service provider environments.

The engineer in this role will execute Method of Procedure (MOP) activities, perform pre-maintenance and post-maintenance validation, support network changes on Cisco routing and switching platforms, and troubleshoot issues that arise during live production maintenance events. Because this role supports complex service provider changes with direct production network access, candidates must demonstrate strong technical judgment, operational discipline, and prior experience working in live network environments.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Execute approved maintenance window activities in large-scale service provider network environments.
• Perform pre-maintenance readiness checks, including device health, interface status, routing adjacencies, redundancy status, configuration state, and required access validation.
• Follow approved Method of Procedure (MOP) documents, checklists, and change-control requirements with strong attention to detail.
• Implement production network changes on Cisco routing and switching platforms during scheduled maintenance windows.
• Validate service health before, during, and after maintenance activity, including routing, switching, redundancy, management access, interface state, and customer-impact indicators.
• Support rollback, recovery, and contingency procedures when maintenance activity does not proceed as expected.
• Troubleshoot issues involving routing convergence, BGP/OSPF adjacencies, interface state, failover behavior, configuration variance, and device health.
• Identify risk, pause or stop execution when needed, and escalate clearly when network conditions, documentation, or implementation steps do not align with the approved plan.
• Work closely with project leads, peer engineers, customer technical teams, and project managers to coordinate execution, validation, escalation, and follow-up.
• Document maintenance results, exceptions, issues, and follow-up actions clearly and accurately.
• Help identify repeatable issues and opportunities to improve MOP quality, checklist accuracy, implementation consistency, and operational efficiency.

Good to have:

• Strong understanding of service provider network architecture and operational practices.
• In-depth knowledge of routing and switching technologies, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, VLANs, trunking, STP, LACP, QinQ, and high availability concepts.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco network hardware and software in production service provider or large enterprise environments.
• Experience with Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, IOS-XR, and NX-OS platforms.
• Ability to execute structured maintenance activity while validating network health and service stability throughout the event.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex routing, switching, redundancy, interface, and device health issues during time-sensitive maintenance windows.
• Experience working from MOPs, implementation checklists, configuration templates, and standard change procedures.
• Familiarity with network monitoring, logging, terminal, and validation tools used during maintenance execution.

Education:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field

Experience: 6-8 years

Professional skill requirements:

Must have strong working knowledge of and minimum 6 years demonstrated experience with the following:

• Routing protocols, including OSPF, BGP, and IS-IS, in service provider or large enterprise networks
• BGP concepts, including iBGP, eBGP, route reflectors, route policy, and complex multi-provider peering environments
• Switching technologies, including VLAN trunking, STP, LACP, port channels, QinQ, and related validation checks
• Cisco routing and switching platforms such as ASR, Nexus 3K/9K, 31128, 93180, or similar service provider platforms
• Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, IOS-XR, and/or NX-OS configuration, validation, and troubleshooting
• Service provider technologies such as MPLS, QoS, HSRP, VRRP, or similar redundancy and traffic-management functions
• MOP execution, production change validation, rollback support, and maintenance window troubleshooting
• Pre-maintenance and post-maintenance validation, including interface status, routing adjacencies, hardware health, logs, and management reachability
• Executing controlled production changes with direct network access under established change-control standards
• Clear communication and escalation during live maintenance windows when risk, blockers, or unexpected behavior are identified
• Verifiable experience working in a Service Provider environment, either directly or through vendor/partner delivery, is highly preferred.
• Experience supporting wireless carriers, data center, or large-scale network transformation programs is desirable.
• Experience with Cisco ASR 9000 series, Nexus 3K/9K, or similar routing and switching platforms is highly desirable.
• IPv4, IPv6, Carrier Grade NAT, IP/MPLS, LTE/IMS, or related service provider technology experience is a plus.

Certifications:

• CCNP, CCNP-SP, CCIE, JNCIS, or equivalent hands-on experience is highly desirable.
• Relevant Cisco, Juniper, ITIL, or service provider networking certifications are a plus but not required for strong practical candidates
