Description

Design and build scalable backend applications, microservices, and data platforms processing billions of daily market events.

This role is hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy highly scalable Java-based backend applications and microservices.
• Build and optimize distributed systems using Hadoop, Spark, Hive, and Presto for big data processing.
• Architect high-performance REST APIs and data ingestion frameworks on AWS infrastructure.
• Improve application performance, reliability, and observability across distributed environments.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and drive engineering best practices.

Required Skills

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years of hands-on Java backend development.
• Strong expertise in building distributed microservices architectures and RESTful API design.
• 3+ years of experience with Big Data technologies, specifically Spark, Hadoop, Hive, and/or Presto.
• Proven experience with AWS services including EMR, ECS, Lambda, and S3.
• Deep understanding of distributed computing, complex SQL query optimization, and large-scale data platforms.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Jenkins or similar tools.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related technical field.
• Working knowledge of Python or Unix Shell scripting.

Preferred Skills

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools with a disciplined approach to validating output.
• Ability to work onsite 3 days per week in Rockville, MD or Tysons Corner, VA.
