Job Title: Senior Java Backend Engineer

Location: Redwood City, CA (Hybrid – Onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Backend Engineer to join our engineering team in Redwood City, CA. The ideal candidate will have strong backend development experience with Java and distributed systems, along with exposure to streaming technologies, database management, and monitoring platforms. Candidates with networking fundamentals and experience in telemetry or observability platforms will be highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed applications using Java.
• Build and support real-time data processing and streaming pipelines using Kafka and related technologies.
• Work with PostgreSQL databases for data storage, optimization, and performance tuning.
• Develop monitoring dashboards and system observability using Grafana and related tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to enhance platform scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Participate in troubleshooting, debugging, and production support activities.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and technical design reviews.
• Support telemetry and observability initiatives where applicable.

Required Skills

• 5–8 years of strong hands-on experience in Java backend development.
• Experience with:
• Apache Kafka
• PostgreSQL
• Grafana
• Basic networking knowledge, including familiarity with:
• Networking protocols
• Routers
• General networking concepts
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Experience working in scalable distributed systems environments.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Golang and/or Python.
• Exposure to telemetry or observability platforms.
• Experience with:
• Apache Flink
• Prometheus
• Thanos
• MDT (Model-Driven Telemetry)
• 5+ years of domain experience in:
• Large-scale network engineering
• Telemetry platforms
• Observability systems
