Role Overview:

This role is for a Senior Rust Engineer focused on driving Java-to-Rust migrations to achieve DRAM reduction and improve latency. The engineer will be responsible for identifying memory and latency-bound services, owning the migration process end-to-end, and applying deep system expertise to AI agent-driven workflows. Key responsibilities include defining type hierarchies, module boundaries, and API contracts, as well as contributing improvements to the Rustify framework.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive Java-to-Rust migrations as a DRAM-reduction lever, applying a decision framework to identify memory/latency-bound services, ranking APIs by traffic, and owning each migration from analysis through cutover.
• Bring deep system expertise to the agent-driven workflow, defining type hierarchies, module boundaries, and API contracts, and actively driving and unblocking Rustify agents.
• Establish oracle-based correctness and prove functional equivalence by capturing production request/response pairs and validating Rust implementations via progressive zero-diff testing.
• Implement on the target stack, including Smithy Rust Server SDK, ECS Fargate (ARM64/Graviton), CargoBrazil, CDK with @amzn/pipelines, and CloudAuth, while optimizing for memory, profiling hotspots, and quantifying DRAM/latency savings.
• Execute safe rollout and operations, including shadow deployment, gradual cutover with rollback, establishing observability (dashboards, alarms, runbooks), and aligning API compatibility with upstream/downstream teams.
• Codify reusable learnings, such as migration guides, runbooks, and friction logs.
