Description

Manage and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premises, virtual machines, and Azure SQL PaaS platforms.

Responsibilities

• Administer Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance, including provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and optimization.
• Lead the full database lifecycle: installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and decommissioning.
• Provision database infrastructure using the Azure Portal and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and/or Bicep.
• Partner with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to support database deployments through CI/CD pipelines.
• Use Jira for story tracking, task management, documentation, and sprint execution in Agile environments.

Required Skills

• 7+ years of overall experience as a SQL Server DBA.
• 6+ years of hands-on experience in Azure/cloud, specifically in Platform as a Service (PaaS) environments.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server 2016–2022 administration.
• Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Strong knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances, backup/recovery, and HA/DR design.
• Proven experience in database migration, modernization, and upgrades across on-prem and Azure environments.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure provisioning in Azure using Terraform modules and/or Bicep.
• Proficiency in PowerShell or Azure CLI for automation.
• Strong knowledge of Azure networking, including VNets, Private Link, firewall rules, and connectivity patterns for database services.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Azure SQL service tiers such as General Purpose, Business Critical, and Hyperscale.
• Experience with Ansible for configuration management or automation.
• Hands-on experience with T-SQL development and query tuning.
