Mid Level System Designer

We are seeking a Design System Designer to own and evolve the design system powering our banking mobile app. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience building or scaling a large design system, is fluent in Figma's variables and component architecture, and understands the platform-specific demands of native mobile design.

Responsibilities:

• Pair with the design system lead to own and evolve the design system's foundations — color, typography, spacing, and elevation — and its component library.
• Build and maintain design tokens/variables (primitive, semantic, and component-level) including multi-mode theming (e.g. light/dark).
• Design and document components with full variant and state coverage (default, hover, focus, disabled, error) using slot-based, nested structures.
• Partner with engineering to ensure design-to-code parity, including token pipelines and component mapping.
• Establish and maintain governance: contribution guidelines, versioning, and naming conventions.
• Audit product surfaces for consistency and drive design system adoption across product teams.
• Account for native iOS and Android platform-specific requirements within the system architecture.
• Support and train other designers on effective system usage.
• Embed accessibility standards at the component level so compliant usage is the default.

Skills:

• 8-10+ years of experience in Product/UX Design, with significant time spent on design systems specifically.
• Proven experience setting up or managing a large design system — required.
• Fluent in Figma variables, component properties, variants, and slot/nested component structures — required.
• Strong understanding of token architecture (primitive, semantic, alias) and atomic design principles.
• Native mobile app (iOS/Android) design experience, with understanding of platform-specific constraints.
• Previous banking, fintech, or other regulated/enterprise experience preferred.
• Strong documentation and systems-thinking skills.
• Track record of driving design system adoption and governance across multiple teams.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) as applied at the component level.
• Basic front-end literacy (HTML/CSS fundamentals, or understanding of how design tokens map to code) to communicate effectively with engineers.
• Familiarity with versioning/release practices for design systems (changelogs, deprecation strategy).
