Description

Lead end-to-end protocol development projects involving Layer-2 and Layer-3 networking, overseeing design, implementation, and interoperability.

This role is hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Define technical architecture and specifications for features including VLANs, STP/MSTP, LACP, ARP, IPv4/IPv6, and dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP, RIP).
• Oversee integration with switching/routing hardware, SDKs, and kernel networking modules to ensure performance, scalability, and security.
• Build, mentor, and manage a team of protocol engineers, ensuring clear goals, performance reviews, and high productivity.
• Manage project scope, timelines, and risk mitigation while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders like product and hardware teams.
• Perform hands-on coding, code reviews, and debugging in C/C++, Go, or Python when necessary to resolve complex protocol issues.

Required Skills

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering leadership within the networking domain.
• Deep expertise in Layer-2 and Layer-3 protocols (STP, VLAN, LACP, ARP, IPv4/IPv6, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, multicast).
• Strong hands-on coding skills in C/C++ and proficiency in at least one of Go or Python.
• Solid understanding of the Linux networking stack, kernel modules, and drivers.
• Proven experience in people management, including hiring, mentoring, and resolving team dynamics.
• Strong project and program management skills with the ability to handle multiple overlapping streams.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with performance optimization, packet processing, and latency measurement.
• Knowledge of ASIC/hardware offload technologies and emerging routing/switching trends.
