Description

You will design accessible, user-centered digital products and services for the City of Boston.

This role is on-site.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute usability tests for web applications and city portals, synthesizing findings into actionable design recommendations.
• Create high-fidelity, accessible prototypes in Figma, ranging from rapid wireframes to production-ready interfaces.
• Contribute to and maintain the Boston Design System by documenting components and introducing new patterns.
• Facilitate design sessions with senior leaders and stakeholders to align on user needs and constraints.
• Advocate for user-centered design principles within complex organizational and policy environments.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience in digital product and service design.
• Expert proficiency in Figma for UI design and prototyping.
• Deep knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and implementation.
• Experience with Agile workflows and digital collaboration tools like Miro.
• Proven track record in government or similar public sector organizational environments.
• Strong facilitation skills with the ability to guide design decisions.
• Systems thinking ability to navigate technical, systemic, and policy constraints.

Preferred Skills

• Experience designing for AI-driven search or permitting platforms.
• Familiarity with public sector user research methodologies.
