Description

You will architect, install, and maintain complex z/OS environments, managing operating system upgrades, vendor software installations, and system standardization.

This role is hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Perform standard system programming activities including configuration, installation, and maintenance using SMP/E and z/OSMF workflows.
• Architect and configure highly complex z/OS environments, third-party software, and support software standardization initiatives.
• Execute operating system upgrades and RSU maintenance, ensuring smooth transitions via z/OSMF workflow execution.
• Support cross-functional teams in storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, and networking from the z/OS perspective.
• Identify and implement system and process improvements, facilitating business initiatives with application support teams and internal customers.

Required Skills

• 12+ years of professional work experience as a Mainframe System Programmer in z/OS and ISV environments.
• Expertise in SMP/E and non-SMP/E installation of ISV products, including IBM and Broadcom software product installations and upgrades.
• Mastery of z/OS system commands, utilities, and automation tools, including fluent knowledge of JCL and IBM utilities (IEBGENER, IEBCOPY, AMASPZAP, DFDSS).
• Hands-on knowledge of z/OS V2.5 or later, JES2/JES3, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, USS/OMVS, and SMP/E.
• Experience with large-scale environments, including multi-LPAR and Parallel Sysplex configurations.
• Knowledge of IODF and HCD skillset for adding new devices.
• Ability to design project plans for upgrades, maintenance, and decommissioning, communicating timelines with stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to mainframe modernization initiatives, including APIs, hybrid cloud integration, Zowe, and DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines).
• Experience with z/OSMF and modern interfaces.
• IBM certifications.
