  Job Description
Network Support Engineer - CISCO

Work as a contractor within network services environments delivering support and implementation services within the following areas:-

- The Data Network Support Team are responsible for managing a very large data network, comprising over 1100 sites and 120 firewalls, as part of a long term government contract

- This role is to assist in the management, monitoring, troubleshooting and support of all firewalls and Intrusion Prevention Systems across those sites as well as the customer firewalls within the VMP POP sites. The firewalls at the VMP POPs and data hosting centres underpin the availability of the IPT Telephony System and all IPCC Contact Centre services and are critical to the Service Operations team's ability to support both platforms

- Service cover is provided via manned presence Monday to Friday 7:00 - 21:00 and Saturday/Sunday 9:00 - 17:00. All implementation and intrusive investigative work is performed outside of these hours and there is an ongoing requirement and expectation that technicians are prepared to work during these periods on occasion. The interaction and co-ordination of these actions regularly requires that work is carried out from the operations centre in Newcastle.

Technical requirements:

- Checkpoint certified – CCSP preferred but CCSE considered for applicants with suitable experience. (Mandatory - minimum 5 years in a large support organisation)
- Cisco certified – CCNP preferred but CCNA considered for suitable applicants with proven network support experience. (Mandatory – minimum 3 years)
- Expert knowledge of Nokia Firewalls. (Mandatory – minimum 5 years)
- Excellent understanding of Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems. (Mandatory – minimum 2 years)
- Good understanding of Cisco PIX
- Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP and ICMP networking protocols. (Mandatory – minimum 3 years)
- Excellent knowledge of Cisco networking equipment including Routers and Switches. (Mandatory – minimum 3 years)
- Good knowledge of Cisco VLANs and layer 3 switching. (Mandatory – minimum 2 years)
- Good knowledge of management tools – SmartView, SmartMonitor, Ciscoworks, PND, SMARTS and Netscout
- Knowledge of IP Telephony, DHCP and DNS in a multi-site environment
- SC Security cleared

Business requirements:

- Able to deal with technical and non-technical people at all levels - internal, customer and suppliers
- Ability to put across technical ideas in business language
- Self starter with a determination to succeed

Contract length will be a minimum of 4 to 6 months with a start date within a few days to a week. Please note for this position you will need to be either currently security cleared either at BC, SC or DV level or able to gain clearance through to SC level. To this end only individuals with UK Residency can be accepted with British Citizenship.
