  Job Description
Lead responsibility for system administration throughout the Company, reporting directly to the Head of IT. Ensure availability, security and performance of all IT applications and infrastructure used by internal and external customers to enable effective and efficient business operations. Make recommendations for improvements in infrastructure and manage project implementation once authorised. Develop expertise in selected technical areas so as to provide specialist support. Develop and maintain knowledge so as to be able to provide back up for specific tasks of other team members. Contribute to the resolution of problems and provide help in the use of IT systems to internal customers when required.

Key Accountabilities:

Maintain a stable and effective technical infrastructure. Perform maintenance, security, capacity management, patching and backup of servers and key network equipment.

Administration of the network, Domains and critical applications such as Exchange email and Anti-virus. Management of the virtualised server environment using VMware.

Develop, maintain and enforce security policies and mechanisms to protect the company and its employees from internal and external threats to data and systems, for example through preventing unauthorised access, virus infections, access to unsuitable web sites etc.

Assist in the resolution of software and hardware problems, through contributing to the fault analysis, carrying out tests, liaising with customers, team members and suppliers if necessary in order to minimise downtime and disruption to the business. Provide communication to affected business areas throughout the issue. Learn from and follow up any issues to prevent re-occurrence where possible.

Respond to enquiries from members of the IT team or other users through either resolving problems or offering advice and training to enable employees to make full and proper use of the IT environment and achieve their objectives. Evaluate new hardware and software and determine costs + business benefit etc and make recommendations.

Essential Skills

5 years IT experience. 18 months as a Systems Administrator.

In depth knowledge of and experience of working with technologies including: Windows 2000/2003/2008, SQL 2000/2005, Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Office 2003/2007, Exchange 2003/2007, IP, LANS/WANS/VPNs, Firewalls, Internet and wireless technologies.

Thorough understanding of telecommunications and network architecture.

Experience working with virtualized server environments.

Specific experience of administration in a 2003 Domain environment, with thorough knowledge of Active Directory.
