  Job Description
The role includes overnight and weekend on-call for their key production UNIX servers and the ability to troubleshoot systems and work under pressure is essential. This role is very hands on and will include building servers, patching them, troubleshooting performance issues and supporting project implementations at weekends.

The successful applicant will need to be well organised as they will be handling both support tasks and project work at the same time. They will need good communication and planning skills and prove they can work effectively in a team.

The candidate will work in an ITIL managed data centre

Job Functions are:

1. Responding to helpdesk calls about UNIX issues
2. Perform routine change activity for various other teams with-in BUPA such as assisting with software upgrades to third party software.
3 Manage server maintenance work such as performing operating system upgrades and patching
4. Suggesting enhancements to existing UNIX monitoring scripts running with-in HP Openview, create new scripts as required
5. Deal with server failures, diagnose problems and work with external support companies to rapidly fix any issues.
6. Deliver project assignments on time
7. Build good working relationship with other data centre teams,
8. Monitor server utilisation, provide capacity planning reports, recommend capacity upgrades

Essential Skills:

*Sun Solaris Systems administration including server installation and configuration, patching, maintenance, performance management, troubleshooting
*Unix troubleshooting, able to diagnose the cause of a down server and work with external support companies to resolve any issues
*Volume Management Software (either Veritas Volume Manager or Solaris Volume Manager)
*UNIX Shell Scripting

Desirable Skills

*Skilled in another Unix / Linux operating system, Redhat, HP-UX or AIX
*Virtualisation of UNIX operating environments for example Solaris zones
*Experience of ZFS
*Experience of Sun Microsystems E25 / F15 servers or M series servers
*Experience of Dual Data Centre operation where one is a stand-by for the other
*SAN administration experience in an IBM or EMC2 environment.
*Familiar with supporting Oracle Unix environments
*Certification in any UNIX / Linux

Non Technical Skills:
