  Job Description
The Document Input Specialist will be responsible for using a variety of software applications, design and apply formatting tags for publications as well as material such as syllabi, awards, diplomas, invitations, course outlines and essays, using a variety of software applications to ensure standards are adhered to within editorial schedule.

Using style sheets, design, write and embed formats/tags for technical publications. Format equations, tables, charts and graphs relating to both electronic and photo-ready output for reproduction. Must be able to communicate effectively with peers in all areas of publishing.

Technical Tasks:
1. Using a Desktop Publishing software package, scan, capture, import, keystroke and format hardcopy and electronic text, tables and graphics to create new or modify existing electronic files.
2. Make textual and format corrections, interpreting proofreader marks, within editorial schedule.
3. Convert files from native file format into on-line HTML and PDF formats for both print and web posting.
4. Quality control — ensures that paragraphs and pages have been formatted correctly.
5. Quality control — provide pre-press and post-press coordination to ensure that the product is prepared and reproduced correctly and in the most cost-effective manner and that established quality control measures are met on all articles according to media type. Interact with outside print vendors to ensure a quality product from outputted file format to color separations and blue line proofs.
6. Maintain documentation regarding status and issues relating to publications at the various stages of the Document/Input process. File management — ensure that all working files are placed in the proper server, directory and folder.
7. Communicate effectively with supervisor about any potential pitfalls or delays in production so adequate resources can be allocated.
8. Ensure that DOD and NATO guidelines regarding handling classified material are being followed.

Skills Required:

1. Minimum three years desktop publishing environment.
2. Ability to communicate and interpret proofreaders', editors' and illustrators' markup.
3. Experience with a publishing program (Corel Ventura a plus) and design of technical publications.
4. Ability to communicate professionally with all levels within the chain of command.
5. Experience in Windows (NT) computer environment.

The selected candidate must have an Associate Degree or minimum experience in lieu of Associate Degree. Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in desktop publishing, working in a Windows NT operating environment. In addition, the successful candidate will also possess experience in Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office 2003, Ventura Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, HTML, XML, JavaScript, ASP and Visual Basic for electronic media. Strong formatting background for creating and embedding formats/tags.
